Community responses to proposals to re-structure the County library service
ORCC wants to help communities likely to be affected by current County Council proposals to re-structure the library service and has produced a briefing paper. This can be downloaded from the Library section of our website.
The paper summarises the County Council's proposals and suggests some questions that your community should ask if your libary is scheduled for closure. The questions will help you to identify which library services are most valued by local users.
The paper also suggests some questions to ask the County Council and some key points to make to the Council, if you feel that the decision to include your library on the list scheduled for closure does not conform to the stated criteria.
While ORCC would clearly prefer every community that would like one to have a local library outlet provided by the County Council, this is clearly not a realistic proposition in the current climate and was not a realistic proposition for many communities in past years, either. A community response purely of blanket opposition to any proposals for change is not likely to be productive. You need to be prepared to look creatively at a range of ways forward as well as the status quo.
ORCC is keen to help you with such a response
