Founded in Adderbury in 2000 by Nick Fennell and Keith Norton, it consists of an informal group of people who meet for lunch at The Bell on the last Friday of the month. What they have in common is that they all run their own businesses or work from home and they like to meet and chat and share experiences. The Friday Club now has a database of some 80 members, all of whom work from home. The Adderbury Friday Club was 10 years old in October 2010. This is a remarkable achievement for an informal club for people working from home.
A couple of Adderbury’s latest homeworkers were chatting at the Annual Day of the Dance in 2000 about their new working situation; plenty of benefits but missing a bit of banter and the support of immediate colleagues so they decided “let's have a beer next Friday lunchtime”. And there was the Friday Club launched, with coverage in the Banbury Guardian and Radio Oxford. We have the occasional guest speaker. We’ve been on BBC’s Working Lunch and the formula seems to work.
