Chilton Working From Home Group
The Chilton Working From Home Group grew out of a conversation between the ORCC community development worker and a local home worker in Autumn 2010.
Fiona works from home as the human resources manager for an aerospace company. In Autumn 2010 She decided to see who else was in the same position in Chilton. She advertised the group in the Chilton Chronicle and spread the word around the village.
At the first meeting in December 2010 held in Fiona’s house there were 5 people. Included in this group was the chair of the parish council who wanted to engage more residents in lobbying for better broadband connections for the village.
The group decided they would meet every six weeks and would move round each other’s houses so that different people hosted the group. If the group grew there would be the possibility of meeting at the local pub.
Fiona became very busy after Christmas and had doubts about her level of involvement. As the original organiser, and the group at such an early stage, this could threaten the continuation of the group.
Working with the ORCC Business and Community Links Worker Fiona is seeking a solution to this problem of the group being overly-dependent on her energy.
